Working with layers

Lock / Hide Functions and Layer Visibility

Hidden layers/objects (using Hide) → will not print.
Locked layers/objects → will print normally.
(Both functions are outside the scope of our data check.)

1. Please Unlock Everything Before Submission

Locked objects or locked layers can cause unexpected issues during printing.
Before sending your data, unlock all objects and all layers.

In Illustrator:

Object → Unlock All
Object → Show All

Our team will also unlock everything during prepress.
Please do not use “Lock” as a way to “prevent something from printing,” as this often creates printing errors.

2. Delete Unnecessary Layers or Hidden Objects

If you have layers or objects that should not be printed, please delete them from the file.

Even if an object is set to “Hidden,” it may:

  • accidentally output in print
  • cause errors during RIP processing
  • interfere with trimming or alignment

To ensure stable printing, remove unnecessary artwork completely rather than relying on Hide.

3. About Object Locking

Before submitting the file, confirm that

  • “Unlock All”
  • “Show All”

are grayed out (meaning there is nothing left locked or hidden).

4. About the Hide Function

Objects/layers hidden using Hide may still:
cause unexpected errors
appear in print output despite being hidden

For this reason, please delete unused or non-printing objects instead of hiding them.
